Training4GIS Launches Two New Courses for the Fire Service

13 October 2009 - Training 4 GIS™, the training and consultancy division of The GeoInformation Group™, announces the introduction of two new training courses to the Fire Safety Emergency Cover (FSEC) Toolkit programme: "Understanding the Workload Model" and "What's New in the Latest Release?"

These two courses supplement the existing core modules that form a series of classroom-based training. The programme is designed to help individual Fire & Rescue Services (FRS) develop their understanding and effective use of the FSEC Toolkit.

Training4GIS™ Training Director, Fiona Cocks, says, "Understanding the Workload Model" focuses on a new model launched with update 16. The course provides a conceptual background to the functionality of the model and provides step-by-step instructions to the processes involved. Meanwhile, the "What's New in the Latest Release?" course looks at:

• Evaluating the effect of smoke alarms on dwelling fire fatality and casualty rates
• Creating multipurpose vehicles and understanding how to update costs and planning scenarios to reflect these
• Using the latest version of the Other Buildings Parent and Child software

The courses, which are primarily aimed at practitioners and can be taken separately or together with other modules, combine theoretical understanding with practical application that reflect the latest developments and enhancements to the FSEC Toolkit. Furthermore, delegates receive a full training pack that includes exercises that can be completed back at the office.

Courses will be made available throughout the UK, however the portable lab also enables the training to be delivered in-house reducing costs and time away from the office. Course attendance costs £425 plus VAT per person per day, though prices will be retained at last year's fee of £350 plus VAT per person per day If attended before the end of 2009.

Training4GIS has been running FSEC courses now since 2007 when Communities and Local Government awarded a contract to write and deliver a programme to provide a new set of FSEC training courses to the FRS. To date, in excess of 300 FRS staff, including those from the following FRSs, have received training courses:

Kent, Shropshire, Dorset, Oxfordshire, Lincolnshire, Highlands & Islands, Nottingham, Northamptonshire, Cheshire, Cumbria, Humberside, Leicestershire, Isle of Wight, West Sussex and London Fire Brigade.
